the feds are a joke. They act like they can shut this and that down yet they cant shut down the source of the problem. Anyone that knows about the undernet and M-Irc would know where the rips for these movies/games/apps/mp3s come from. The thing is, the feds cant shut Mirc down because its global and its also a chat relay so your imposing on alot more rights other than file sharing and also, there is no jurisdiction. Until record execs and those types realize that people arent going to pay 18 dollars for a cd(especially when the artist is only getting like a dollar out of it) then bootlegging is going to be heavy. They might as well just accept it and find other ways of revenue. Really, think about it, the Feds go after p2p users who are the least likely to be bootleggers. Generally p2p stuff is lower quality and its for the average knowledged computer user, which is generally a teenager thats going to download some songs and burn a few cds. They go after these people to make it look like they are doing something, but the truth is, bootlegging is as heavy as it has ever been. The big time bootleggers are those that are able to use technical programs like Mirc and ftp's to access rips before they ever come to stores. I mean for example, a bootlegger would be able to have everything including covers, etc. Whereas, the common user is just tryin to get a couple of songs. It baffles me that the feds can be so ignorant to the way things are done. I guarantee they know, they couldnt be that ignorant, but obviously there isnt much that can be done about it.
